Prof. Olukayode Obafemi Taiwo

Prof. Olukayode Obafemi Taiwo was born on the 14th of February 1956. He retired in February, 2023 as Senior Social Development Specialist, The World Bank, Abuja office after six years of service to the organization. Before then he retired as Director, Environment /Social Safeguards at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on February 2016.

He began his work career as Assistant Lecturer, Department of Sociology, University of Lagos, Akoka in January 1983 and retired as Associate Professor of Sociology in 2003. He was later appointed Professor of Sociology by the Tai Solarin University of Education Ijebu-ode in 2012. As an academic, he has over 45 publications (Chapters in Books, Monographs and Journal Articles) on a variety of subjects which include Environmental Law, Social Anthropology, Social Policy & Administration, and Involuntary resettlement issues.

Both the Federal and State governments of Nigeria had appointed him membership of NUC Accreditation Panel to evaluate undergraduate degree programmes in Social Science discipline in some Nigerian Universities (2007/2008) and many others.
Prof Taiwo had his academic career at the following Institutions: University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)). B. He has benefitted from several Fellowships/Trainings, including Laureate of CODESRIA on Democratic Governance, Dakar, Senegal 1994 and Fellowship of the Center for Afro-American and African Studies, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States, 1996,

Olukayode Taiwo was President, Rotary Club of Gbagada in D9110 Nigeria in 2014/15. He is a Paul Harris Fellow and a major donor level 1 to the Rotary Foundation.
He is married to Evangelist (Mrs.) Oladunni Oluseyi Taiwo, with children and grandchildren.
