Abdulfatai Olanrewaju Anofi

Abdulfatai Anofi is a registered town planner and a Lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Ilorin. He earned his first and second degrees from the University of Lagos, Akoka, and is pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Jos, Plateau State. Before his academic career, he worked as a Town Planning Officer at Adesanya Salako and Associates, a consulting firm in Lagos, from March 2008 to October 2012. He thereafter served the dual roles of the Group Town Planner and Technical Assistant to the President at First World Communities Ltd, a real estate development company, between 2015 and 2018.
With over a decade of field experience before entering academia, Abdulfatai played a significant role in the Timberville Project in Agbowa, Lagos, an urban regeneration initiative covering over 100 hectares to enhance the Oko-Baba Sawmillers Association's environment. His responsibilities included preparing development layouts and managing statutory permits.
He teaches undergraduate courses, coordinates field studies, supervises projects, and participates in community service. His research interests focus on urban informality and the dynamics of slum communities. His Master’s dissertation assessed urban upgrading programs in Lagos State post-independence. The COVID-19 pandemic has further fueled his interest in the urban poor and the administration of palliatives for vulnerable populations and small businesses. Abdulfatai has (co)authored eleven publications in peer-reviewed journals, including WoS- and SCOPUS-indexed outlets.
He has held various positions within the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) at both state and national levels, including serving on the National Executive Committee between 2020 and 2022. He is also the National Auditor of the National Association of Town Planning Educators (NATPED). Instructively, he has acted as a rapporteur at all the national conferences of the NITP since 2019. Abdulfatai is happily married with children.
