Mr. Ben Akabueze

Former HC, Ministry of Economic Planning & Budget

BEN AKABUEZE is currently, since June 2016, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Nigeria. Prior to this, he served briefly as Special Adviser to the President on National Planning. He had served as the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning & Budget, Lagos State, to which he was first appointed by HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu late in his second term, and reappointed by HE Babatunde Raji Fashola for his two terms.

Before joining the public sector, Ben had a career in auditing, accounting, consulting and banking spanning over 23 years at Price Water house, Nigeria International Bank (Citibank Nigeria), Fidelity Bank, United Bank for Africa, NAL Bank (where he was Managing Director/CEO from June 2000 to December 2005) and Sterling Bank (as Executive Director).

Ben graduated first class from the University of Lagos, and holds post-graduate certificates from the Lagos Business School and Harvard Kennedy School of Government, USA. Ben is the recipient of several academic, professional and community service awards. He is a Fellow Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), Fellow Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB) and Fellow Institute of Credit Administrators (FICA).

Ben is an ordained Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and is currently Pastor-in-charge of RCCG Lagos Province 39 headquartered at The King’s Court Parish, Victoria Island, Lagos. He is married and has children.
