TPL Olutoyin Ayinde, FNITP, PPNITP

Former HC, Ministry of Physical Planning & Urban Development

Born to the family of Moses Oluyemi Ayinde and Grace Olajumoke Ayinde (Nee Ogunlewe), Olutoyin Ayinde, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), is the Chairman, Tee-Ay-Ay Limited, a firm of Consulting Urban Planners based in Lagos. Toyin Ayinde has built his career as an Urban Planner in the Private Sector for over three and half decades. He volunteered as an adjunct lecturer at the Lagos State University for over a decade. He represented the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners in the Committee assignment on Lagos Magacity Region headed by Professor Akin Mabogunje. He served the Lagos State Government meritoriously as Honourable Commissioner, Physical Planning and Urban Development (2011-2015) under the Babatunde Raji Fashola Administration, and in October 2020, he assumed the office of National President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), where he demonstrated excellent service and leadership skills for two years. He was appointed Chairman of the Tribunal of Inquiry into the Collapse of the 21-storey Structure along Gerrard Road, Ikoyi-Lagos, Nigeria by Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, Governor of Lagos State in November 2021, submitting a credible report. He was appointed Member of the Board of Trustees of NITP at the end of his tenure as National President in November 2022. In view of his contribution in the Construction Industry, he was awarded the Year 2022 Best President of Professional Bodies by the African International Housing Show and was later appointed Member of the Advisory Board of the same Organization in November 2022. His professional practice experience cuts across public, private and academic sectors of the profession of Urban and Regional Planning. In his opinion, “Planning should precede development as thinking should precede speaking; to do otherwise is to expect chaos”. He believes that Nigeria and Nigerians will either organize by adhering to physical planning principles or agonize by working against those principles. He is married to Rhoda Ayinde, who retired as Permanent Secretary in Lagos State, and their marriage is blessed with children and grandchildren.
